| En la formulación de mi tesis doctoral (1972) sobre “La Cristiada” me fui demasiado lejos al privilegiar la causalidad religiosa, mejor dicho, al factor religioso para no meternos en el problema científico, filosófico y metafísico de las causas, una y múltiples. Creo no haber olvidado los factores socioeconómicos, tampoco los culturales, mentales e ideológicos, pero, no cabe duda, formulé de manera demasiado fuerte mi tesis, como un abogado y, bien dice el dicho: “quien demasiado comprueba, nada prueba”. Era una TESIS, pues, que tenía que ir contra la sabiduría político-académica del momento, tanto en lo general como en lo particular. Desde 1972 he aprendido mucho y ahora he podido matizar mi “tesis”. In the formulation of my thesis (1972) on the great Mexican popular uprising of 1926-1929 known as La CRISTIADA, I went too far in the privilege given to the religious factor in the understanding of the movement. One must remember that it was a thesis, a professional thesis for the Doctorate of History, and I defended the importance, at that time neglected or negated, of the religion for the people crushed between two adversaries, the Catholic Church and the Revolutionary State in building. Thirty years later, I make my autocritical and defense. I use my critics and the progress of historiography, before reflecting on the relation between Time and historical knowledge. Dans la formulation de ma thèse (1972) —il faut savoir que La Christiade fut ma thèse de doctorat d’Etat— je suis allé trop loin dans le privilège accordé à la causalité, à l’explication religieuse du grand soulèvement paysan de 1926-1929, au Mexique. Je n’avais pas oublié les facteurs socioéconomiques, culturels, ethniques, mentaux, idéologiques, mais... comme un avocat j’ai trop insisté sur ce point et qui veut trop prouver, finit par ne rien prouver. Plus de trente ans après, je fais mon autocritique, reviens sur le sujet à la lumière des nouvelles recherches et m’arrête sur le problème de la connaissance historique. | |
