| La traducción al español de Economía y sociedad [Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft] de Max Weber es la expresión más compleja de un proyecto para modernizar las ciencias sociales. Este documento de trabajo analiza algunas facetas de la misma que apenas han recibido atención por parte de los estudiosos. Entre ellas están la definición de un vocabulario especializado para las ciencias sociales así como la destacada posición que ocupa en la estrategia editorial del Fondo de Cultura Económica, que estaba a su vez estrechamente vinculada a la expansión de las ciencias sociales a partir de 1945. En la traducción misma participaron cinco personas sin que, al parecer, sus contribuciones fueran nunca unificadas. Por este y otros motivos, el documento de trabajo critica cómo se tradujeron algunos conceptos importantes para la sociología de la dominación, así como la fundamental dicotomía Gemeinschaft vs. Gesellschaft y su elaboración weberiana, Vergemeinschaftung y Vergesellschaftung. En las conclusiones se mantiene que los traductores carecían de un conocimiento exhaustivo de Weber. Economía y Sociedad presenta debilidades serias en cuanto a la terminología y la coherencia interna del conjunto de la obra. The translation of Max Weber's Economy and Society [Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft] into Spanish is the most sophisticated expression of a project to modernize the social sciences. This working paper analyzes some hitherto neglected aspects of the translation. These overlooked aspects include the attempt to define a specialized vocabulary for the social sciences. Moreover, it discuses the prominent place that Economy and Society occupied within the growth strategy of the publisher, Fondo de Cultura Económica, also closely linked to the expansion of the social sciences after 1945. As for the translation itself, it was a collaborative work, (to which five people contributed), which probably nobody revised thoroughly for consistence. Finally, this working paper criticizes the translation of some important concepts included in the sociology of domination and of the noted dichotomy Gemeinschaft vs Gesellschaft and its Weberian derivatives, Vergemeinschaftung and Vergesellschaftung. To conclude, it is argued that the translators lacked an exhaustive knowledge of Weber. Economy and Society shows serious weaknesses, both in terms of the terminology and of its overall internal coherence. | |
